The artwork of Dark Fox Creative is inspired by the wilderness, mountains, and wildlife near Lake Tahoe, California. The brand features unique fine art, illustrations, art and greeting cards, prints, and goods. Sara Mohagen is an artist and illustrator who embraces two unique styles of art with realistic graphite black and white wildlife illustrations as well as vibrant watercolors.
Sara creates highly detailed portraits of animals she encounters, as seen in her Woodland Wildlife Series. The result are illustrations that are unique and have expressions that reach out to the viewer. She captures the essence of each creature; the little glint in their eye, a cheeky look about them, a window to their personality.
Dark Fox Creative began after a diagnosis of Stage IV cancer. A self-taught artist, Sara started drawing when going through treatment. In doing so she found a love for artwork and creativity that brings her joy every time she sits down to paint or draw. On any given day she can either be found walking outdoors or sitting at her drawing desk in her art studio near Donner lake. Her creative partners are always nearby in the form of a mug of coffee, her sweet pups, and occasionally a bit of dark chocolate.
Sara’s hope is to create fine art that people connect with. Something that makes them think of an experience they had with an animal or in nature, a feeling of freedom or wildness, or one they simply feel a kinship with.
